Suns keeping Duop Reath on two-way deal

The Suns are converting center Duop Reath’s training camp contract to a two-way deal, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The move follows Monday’s releases of Koby Brea and CJ Huntley, which opened two two-way spots. Reath will fill one alongside guard Pat Spencer, leaving Phoenix with another opening.

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 had indicated last week that the Suns planned to retain Reath. His addition gives them more depth at center with Mark Williams recovering from shoulder surgery.

Reath, 30, spent most of his first three NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers before undergoing season-ending foot surgery in January. He was traded to the Hawks in February and subsequently waived.

The 6-foot-9 center signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Phoenix shortly before training camp. He averaged 5.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 11.5 minutes across four preseason appearances.

Reath brings an outside shooting option to the frontcourt, having made 35.7 percent of his career three-point attempts. In 146 NBA games, he has averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.3 minutes.

Despite his age, Reath remains eligible for a two-way contract because he has just three years of NBA experience.
