The Pacers and center Myles Turner have begun talks on a contract extension, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Turner, 26, is having a banner season, averaging career-highs 16.7 points and 7.8 rebounds, shooting a career-high 54 percent from the field, in 26 games in the final year of his current deal. The Pacers have been one of the NBA’s most pleasant surprises along the way.
Turner has been the subject of trade rumors the past several seasons, though the Pacers have not been shopping him, it seems. Rather, other teams have been showing interest, as Turner is among the league’s best when it comes to defending at the basket.
Per Charania, both the Lakers and Raptors have shown interest since the start of the season.
“The Pacers are expected to continue to have an open mindset regarding the trade market and are not ruling out anything as part of their direction,” Charania wrote.
Turner is represented by CAA agent Austin Brown, who is handling the negotiations with Indiana on Turner’s behalf, Charania noted.
