Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson suffered a right hamstring strain and will miss at least three weeks, the team announced.
Williamson suffered the injury in Monday’s loss to the 76ers. The Pelicans said he won’t be re-evaluated for three weeks — so it could end up being longer.
This is just the latest in a long string of injuries for the ultra-talented Williamson, who missed all of last season with a broken foot.
Along with Williamson’s injury issues, the Pelicans have been without small forward Brandon Ingram since Nov. 25. He will miss at least Wednesday’s game against the Rockets.
Nonetheless, the Pelicans have remained at or near the top of the Western Conference. But without Williamson and Ingram, such a status undoubtedly will be difficult to maintain.
Williamson, 22, is averaging 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 61 percent from the field, in 29 games.
Pelicans announced that medical imaging taken earlier today confirmed forward Zion Williamson sustained a right hamstring strain during last night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Williamson will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
