The Lakers have signed several rookie free agents that were expected to get drafted, but didn’t.
The list includes Gonzaga shooting guard Joel Ayayi and Oklahoma guard Austin Reaves, who were signed to two-way contracts, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin.
Along with that, the Lakers reached an Exhibit 10 deal with Texas Tech guard Mac McClung, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Ayayi and Reaves are replace former two-way players two-way players Kostas Antetokounmpo and Devontae Cacok, both of whom are free agents. (Antetokounmpo has already agreed to a deal overseas.)
Along with those sigings, the Lakers reached an Exhibit 10 agreement with Michigan shooting guard Chaundree Brown, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
Exhibit 10 deals are considered “make-good” contracts that are usually at least good for training camp.
Mostly, undrafted rookies are added for Summer League rosters that give teams a nice look at some possible diamonds in the rough or G League additions.
The Lakers brought some players on Exhibit 10 deals to training camp last season and that is surely again the plan.
