Suns forward Cam Johnson is expected to return to action for the first time in more than two months for Thursday’s home game vs. the Nets, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Johnson underwent surgery to remove a portion of his the meniscus in his right knee in early November and has been sidelined ever since.
Johnson, 26, won the Suns’ starting small forward job before the season, reportedly being among the reasons for the trade request from teammate Jae Crowder. In eight appearances on the season, Johnson has been very good, averaging 13.0 points on 45 percent shooting, including 43 percent on 3-pointers.
“Yeah man, it’s unfortunate,” point guard Chris Paul said at the time, via Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. “This is my third year here and just getting to know Cam and knowing how great of a guy he is, how hard he works. Getting into the starting lineup. It’s a big year for him. It’s not it. Just a hurdle that he’s going to have to overcome and we’re going to be right there with him.”
Johnson was originally selected by the Timberwolves with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was immediately traded to the Suns, along with the forward Dario Saric, for fellow 2019 pick and guard Jarrett Culver.
