The Nets are looking to expand the agreed-on trade with the Mavericks centered on star guard Kyrie Irving and add a third team to the deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Reports say the trade, as it stands, will send Irving and forward Markieff Morris to the Mavs in exchange for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and second-round picks in 2027 and ’29.
The Nets may be looking to get the Suns, Hornets or Raptors involved, per sources. Brooklyn could also be looking to flip Dinwiddie to another team, as we relayed here.
That said, the Mavericks would like the deal to be done and official by today, as Irving is expected to suit up for Wednesday’s game vs. the Clippers, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Irving, 30, is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds, shooting 49 percent from the field and 37 percent on 3-pointers in 40 games. He was suspended briefly earlier this season for tweeting out a link to anti-Semitic material.
The No. 1 overall pick in 2011, Irving also requested a trade from the Cavaliers following the 2017 season.
Dinwiddie, 29, is averaging 17.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 53 games. He is shooting 46 percent from the field and 40 percent on 3-pointers.
Finney-Smith, 29, is averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds, shooting 42 percent from the field and 36 percent on threes, in 40 games.
Hoops Wire will have more on this story as it develops.
ESPN Sources: Nets-Mavs trade still hasn’t been made official with league office because Nets are evaluating opportunities to expand deal w/ a third team. Teams are expected to make two-way deal official in next couple of hours – unless Nets find something bigger to fold into it.
