Point guard Reggie Jackson was acquired by the Hornets from the Clippers ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, but Jackson isn’t likely to last long.
Per Shams Charana of The Athletic, Jackson and the Hornets are expected to agree on a contract buyout, sending Jackson into free agency after clearing waivers.
The Hornets traded center Mason Plumlee to the Clippers in exchange for Jackson, as we relayed here. it was just one of several moves made by the Clippers, who also acquired Rockets guard Eric Gordon and Nuggets guard Bones Hyland.
As Charania noted, Jackson will become one of the most-coveted players on the buyout market should he be added to the list of available free agents.
Jackson, 32, is averaging 10.9 points and 3.5 assists in 52 games.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are expected to play their younger players in the season’s final 30 games and set themselves up for the NBA Draft Lottery.
