Hawks Set to Make Significant Offer to Coaching Frontrunner Quin Snyder

The Hawks are progressing in talks that will make Quin Snyder their next coach, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The sides have been trying to iron out details, it seems, that will land Snyder back on the sideline for the first time since he coached the Jazz at the end of last season. He then stepped down, though it was always believed he would become a head coach, somewhere, again.

It is sounding more and more like that place will be Atlanta.

After firing Nate McMillan earlier in the week, GM Landry Fields even mentioned Snyder as a candidate. 

Per Wojnarowski, the Hawks are prepared to make a large “contractual commitment” to Snyder, not to mention give him the green light on gameday roster decisions.

“If Snyder takes over this season, the organization would certainly welcome a turnaround on a sub-.500 season, but more so is determined to give Snyder a chance to start evaluating the team’s personnel and collaborating on the baseline of a reshaped culture and program,” Wojnarowski wrote.

Snyder, 56, coached the Jazz from 2014-22, compiling a 372-264 record and becoming a player favorite along the way.

Before coaching the Jazz, Snyder spent one season as an assistant with the Hawks (2013-14). He also spent time as an assistant with the Lakers, 76ers and Clippers, and is a former head coach in the G League and at the University of Missouri.
