Clippers forward Paul George suffered a knee sprain in Tuesday’s loss to the Thunder and will be re-evaluated in two-to-three weeks, the team announced in a press release.
That timeframe is likely to cost George the rest of the regular season, though there is hope he can return in the playoffs.
George suffered the injury when going up for a rebound against Thunder wing Luguentz Dort, landed awkwardly, then fell to the floor with 4:38 remaining in the game. He needed assistance getting to the locker room.
The Clippers (38-35) are fighting for playoff position and currently sit in fifth place in the Western Conference, a game back of the fourth-place Suns. Los Angeles had won five of six entering Tuesday.
“We’ll see,” forward Kawhi Leonard said when asked how the Clippers will adjust if George is out for a while. “We got a group of guys that still want to win, that like to play basketball, so we’ll see what happens.”
George, 32, is averaging 23.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists, shooting 46 percent from the field and 38 percent on 3-pointers in 55 games.
The Clippers announce that Paul George will be evaluated in two-to-three weeks, likely ruling him out for the rest of the regular season, after sustaining a sprained right knee Tuesday night.
