The Rockets intend to sign free agent point guard D.J. Augustin for the remainder of the season, agent Raymond Brothers told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Given that the Rockets are headed for the NBA Draft lottery, the moves seem a bit puzzling, but they may want Augustin’s leadership for the final few weeks of the regular season.
Augustin, 35, is 5-foot-11 and has not appeared in an NBA game this season. He played 21 games for the Lakers in 2021-22, as well as 34 with the Rockets.
Drafted by the Hornets with the No. 9 overall pick back in 2008, he has also spent time with the Pacers, Bulls, Thunder, Raptors, Pistons, Nuggets, Magic and Bucks.
He averaged 5.4 points and about two assists with Houston and Los Angeles last season.
Free agent G DJ Augustin is signing with the Houston Rockets for the rest of the season, his agent Raymond Brothers of ROC Nation Sports tells ESPN.
