Former NBA point guard Ty Lawson has agreed to a contract with Greek club Kolossos Rhodes, the team announced.
Lawson, 33, is 5-foot-11 and last played in the NBA during the 2016-17 season with the Kings. He spent 2019-20 with Fujian Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 27.3 points and 8.8 assists, as well as 2.5 steals.
But Lawson was banned from the CBA in September of last year after posting an inapporporiate picture of himself with a Chinese woman on social media. It was just one of a multiple incidents that have derailed the talented player’s career.
For instance, Lawson has to undergo treatment after being arrested four times for driving while intoxicated, with the fourth taking place in 2015. He has not had any similar incidents since then and those around the sport are hopeful he has overcome those demons.
Lawson was orginally selected by the Timberwolves with the No. 18 pick in the 2009 draft, then immediately traded to the Nuggets.
His best seasons came with the Denver from 2009-15. He has also played for the Rockets, Pacers and, of course, Kings.
He carries NBA career averages of 12.7 points and 6.0 assists.
