The Kings made the playoffs for the first time since 2007, winning the Pacific Division for the first time in 20 years and finishing with the third seed in the Western Conference.
For their efforts, they get a first-round series matchup with the defending champion Warriors.
Welcome to the playoffs.
It’s the first time for Sacramento since 2006 — resulting in their first game on ABC since 2007. They lost won a playoff series in 2004, when they defeated the Mavericks.
The nationally televised Game 1 vs. the Warriors takes place Saturday, at 8:30 p.m., at the Golden 1 Center. Yes, their arena name sounds strikingly similar to “Golden State.”
Anyway, it’s been a banner season for coach Mike Brown, guard De’Aaron Fox, big man Domantas Sabonis and the rest. A game on ABC for the first time in 16 years is just one example, but perhaps among the most noteworthy.
Now all they need to do for more such games is advance. Can they do it?
The Kings have never reached the Finals while playing home games in Sacramento. As a franchise, they’ve reached it once, back in 1951 … when they were known as the Rochester Royals.
