Kings reward Leaky Black with two-way deal

Leaky Black came to Kings camp looking for a job. Three preseason appearances helped him secure one.

Sacramento converted the forward’s Exhibit 10 contract to a two-way deal Thursday, the team announced, via Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Kings had an opening, so no corresponding move was required. Black joins Adam Flagler and Jonathan Mogbo to fill Sacramento’s three two-way spots.

Black, 27, averaged 7.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in three preseason games, shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc.

That shooting comes from a small sample. His defensive reputation has a longer history. The former North Carolina wing averaged 2.1 steals in 38 games for the Capital City Go-Go last season, along with 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists. That ability to defend and contribute without needing a steady diet of shots gives Sacramento something useful to develop.

Black also brings NBA experience. He appeared in 26 games for Charlotte as a rookie in 2023-24 and another 15 for Washington last season, playing on two-way contracts with both teams. Across those stops, he averaged 4.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.5 minutes.

A two-way deal doesn’t guarantee a regular place in Sacramento’s rotation. It does give Black more opportunity to build on a camp that has already paid off.
