NBA Exec Joe Dumars: Draymond Green Being ‘Repeat Offender’ Led to Suspension

NBA executive VP and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars said the one-game suspension of Warriors forward Draymond Green was the result of Green being a “repeat offender” of similar situations.

Green was suspended for Game 3 of the Warriors’ series vs. the Kings for stomping on the sternum of Kings big man Domantas Sabonis after Sabonis grabbed Green’s ankle in the fourth quarter of Game 2. Green received a Flagrant 2 foul and was immediately ejected.

“Here’s what it came down to: Excessive and over-the-top actions, conduct detrimental and a repeat offender,” Dumars told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. “That’s what separates this where you end up with a suspension.”

Dumars, a former consultant with the Kings, was a member of the Pistons teams of the 1980s nicknamed “The Bad Boys.” He added that he didn’t factor in the Kings’ 2-0 series lead in reaching a decision on Green.

“You know what the situation is, but you have to set that aside and look at the facts in front of you,” he said. “Repeat offender weighs as heavy as anything.”

Sabonis is listed as questionable for Game 3 after sustaining a bruised sternum suffered in the incident.
