Suns Announce Signing Of JaVale McGee

The Suns have officially signed veteran center JaVale McGee to a one-year contract, the team announced in a press release.JaVale McGee

McGee was an unrestricted free agent after splitting time between the Cavaliers and Nuggets last season. He then played for the gold-medal winning U.S. men’s basketball team at the Tokyo Olympics.

McGee, 33, is 7-foot-0 and will join Frank Kaminsky in serving as a backup for Deandre Ayton. As usual, McGee is likely to add winning experience to a team that is coming off a storybook run to the Finals.

He actually owns three championship rings — two with the Warriors and the other with the Lakers. At the very least, McGee will help to replace the loss of big man Dario Saric, likely out for the season after suffering a torn ACL.

“Saric will likely miss most – if not all – of the 2021/22 season due to his injury, so adding a reliable backup who is a true center was a must this offseason,” wrote Alex Kirschenbaum of Hoops Rumors.
