G League to Hold Draft of International Players

The G League will conduct a draft limited strictly to international players between the ages of 18 and 23 on June 28, a day ahead of the NBA Draft, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Players selected in the international draft will have to decide by July 7 whether they will play in the G League next season, Fischer added.

This will also mark the first time that international players can enter the G League draft without having to enter the following NBA Draft.

The G League will be setting the order for its international draft on June 19. It will consist of just one round and be held virtually, per Fischer.

Teams will hold an international player’s G League rights for two seasons after drafting him.

“This new avenue clears the way for more elite prospects to enter the growing G League talent pool, similar to this year’s success story of Ignite guard Mojave King, a 6-foot-5 wing from New Zealand who has rehabilitated his NBA draft stock after playing the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns in Australia’s NBL and the 2022 season in New Zealand’s NBL,” Fischer wrote.
