Mike James Returning To Moscow To Sort Out Future With CSKA

Free agent point guard Mike James is returning to Russia to determine his future with CSKA Moscow, according to Domantas Urbonas of BasketNews.

James, 31, is 6-foot-1 and finished last season with the Nets. He originally signed a three-year contract with CSKA prior to the 2019-20 season — but James and the club reached agreement that allowed him to become a free agent at the end of last year.

He subsequently signed a 10-day contract with the Nets in April, then a deal for the remainder of the season in May.

He may be looking to finalize the termination of his deal with CSKA Moscow, as Urbonas relayed, though the team released a statement saying no agreement has been reached.

“The club and the player have not agreed on the terms of termination of the contract, so Mike, like other basketball players who have agreements with CSKA, will be at the club’s location,” the team statement read. “At the same time, James will train individually, without connecting to work with the main team.”

James averaged 7.7 points and 4.2 assists in 13 appearances with the Nets, who declined the qualifying offer on his contract at the end of the season. Now an unrestricted free agent, would like to remain in the NBA, Urbonas reported.

For instance, James is among the veteran guards who have worked out for the Lakers, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

“Michalis Gioulenoglou from Gazzetta.gr reports that James will meet Andrey Vatutin and Dimitris Itoudis in Moscow to discuss his future with the CSKA,” Urbonas wrote, noting that the meeting is scheduled for this week.
