Bulls guard/forward Derrick Jones Jr. is declining the $3.3 million option on his contract to become an unrestricted free agent, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Jones, 26, is 6-foot-5 and appeared in 64 games this past season, averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field and 34 percent on 3-pointers.
The 2020 Slam Dunk contest champion, Jones is likely to draw interest from several teams looking for an athletic wing off the bench — though it doesn’t seem as if they’d be willing to pay him more than the option he is declining.
That said, he could receive a longer deal from either the Bulls or someone else.
Jones has also spent time with the Suns, Heat and Trail Blazers since entering the NBA in 2016.

This could help the Bulls’ books and is departure from what Jones Jr. said publicly in mid-April. https://t.co/4GW6hVK6ur
