Bulls’ Derrick Jones Jr to Decline Player Option

Bulls guard/forward Derrick Jones Jr. is declining the $3.3 million option on his contract to become an unrestricted free agent, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.Derrick Jones Jr shoots over Jalen Duren

Jones, 26, is 6-foot-5 and appeared in 64 games this past season, averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field and 34 percent on 3-pointers.

The 2020 Slam Dunk contest champion, Jones is likely to draw interest from several teams looking for an athletic wing off the bench — though it doesn’t seem as if they’d be willing to pay him more than the option he is declining.

That said, he could receive a longer deal from either the Bulls or someone else.

Jones has also spent time with the Suns, Heat and Trail Blazers since entering the NBA in 2016.
