For the Spurs, French center Victor Wembanyama may not be enough.
Yes, the entire basketball-loving universe already knows the Spurs will be selecting Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. But per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, San Antonio is attempting to land a second pick in the lottery.
Specifically, it seems, the Spurs may be targeting French forward Bilal Coulibaly, who played alongside Wembanyama for the Metropolitans 92 this past season. Coulibaly is projected by most respected mock drafts to be selected in the Nos. 10-14 range.
“Being a teammate with him again would be great. One of the best starts for his career and for mine,” Wembanyama said.
Along with potentially landing Coulibaly in the draft, the Spurs are believed to be looking to find older veterans via trades or free agency, presumably to assist Wembanyama’s transition to the NBA.
