Magic Promote Anthony Parker to GM; John Hammond Takes Advisory Role

The Magic have promoted former NBA guard Anthony Parker to general manager, as John Hammond is moving into a senior advisory role, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Parker had been serving as assistant GM under president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and Hammond.

Along with the Parker move, the Magic are promoting associate GM Pete D’Alessandro to executive VP of basketball operations, Wojnarowski reported.

Parker, 48, became a European legend as a 6-foot-6 shooting guard before finding some success in the NBA with the Raptors and Cavaliers. Prior to heading overseas, he also spent with the 76ers and Magic.

He has spent 11 years with the Magic’s front office, starting as a scout and moving into a front-office role with the Lakeland Magic, to eventually, assistant GM.

Hammond, 68, previously served as GM of the Bucks. He is best known as being the man who drafted Milwaukee star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo with the No. 15 overall pick in 2013.

His experience has helped set the table for the Magic’s future and we look forward to continuing to lean on him in regard to everything from player evaluation to player development. He helped build a great team in Milwaukee and won a championship in Detroit. He has, and will continue to be, a great friend, mentor and confidant to the Magic family.
