The Suns are trading guard Cameron Payne to the Spurs, along with a second-round pick and cash, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Payne, 28, averaged 10.4 points and 4.5 assists in 48 games last season, shooting 42 percent from the field and 37 percent on 3-pointers. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported last week that the Suns had been exploring Payne trades at the Las Vegas Summer League.
In exchange for Payne, the Suns are acquiring a second-round pick, Charania reported.
Right now, though, the Suns are without a true point guard, having traded Chris Paul to the Wizards in the deal for shooting guard Bradley Beal. (Paul since has been traded to the Warriors).
Meanwhile, the Spurs have been looking to build around French center and No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama with veteran additions, and Payne certainly fits the bill, having been a major part of the Suns’ rotation and playing in the Finals in 2021.
