The Nets are signing forward Darius Bazley to a one-year contract, agents Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Bazley, 23, finished last season with the Suns after a trade with the Thunder, the team with which he spent his first three seasons. In 43 total games in 2022-23, he averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds, showing promise as a player who could make a nice impact if given the minutes.
The No. 23 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, he showed the most promise in 2021-22, averaging 13.7 points and 7.2 assists in 55 games.
With Brooklyn, he will have the opportunity to play an important backup role behind staring forwards Cameron Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith, and perhaps even some time backing up guard/forward Mikal Bridges.
“After originally committing to Syracuse out of high school in Massachusetts, Bazley spent a year training ahead of the 2019 NBA draft. He gained attention for a unique internship partnership with New Balance, his shoe endorser,” Wojnarowski wrote.
