Cavaliers point guard Dennis Schroder will be back in a familiar role later this month.
Schroder has been named to Germany’s 15-man roster for the upcoming 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, according to Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.
He’ll also have some NBA company. Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein and Magic forward Tristan da Silva also made the roster, giving Germany three current NBA players for games against the Netherlands on Aug. 27 and Poland on Aug. 30.
Schroder, of course, has been a fixture with the German national team for years and remains its captain. Germany won the 2023 FIBA World Cup and followed that by winning EuroBasket in 2025.
This particular roster won’t be quite as NBA-heavy as it could have been. Magic star Franz Wagner and brother Moritz Wagner are unavailable, while Ariel Hukporti, Christian Anderson Jr. and Hannes Steinbach also won’t participate in this window.
Germany shouldn’t exactly be hurting for experience.
Daniel Theis, Isaac Bonga, Maodo Lo, Johannes Thiemann and Andreas Obst are among the veterans joining Schroder. Seven players on the roster were part of Germany’s 2023 World Cup championship team.
Germany enters the next qualifying window with a 5-1 record and will begin preparations Monday in Hamburg.
Before the games start counting, Schroder and Germany will also participate in the Turkish Airlines Supercup on Aug. 21 and 22.
Then it’s back to international business for the Cavs’ reserve point guard. And eventually, we presume, back to Cleveland.
