The Pistons are expected to reach a one-year contract agreement with point guard Zavier Simpson, agent Daniel Hazan told Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report/TNT.
Simpson, 26, is 6-foot-0 and played at Michigan from 2016-20. A former Ohio Mr. Basketball, he has appeared in four NBA games — all with the Thunder during the 2021-22 season.
Most of his time as a pro has been spent in the G League, with both the Oklahoma City Blue and Lakeland Magic. With Lakeland, he was named to the G League’s inaugural Next Up Game last season.
Simpson signed with Puerto Rican club Grises de Humacao on April 3 but was released several weeks later. He then played for the Pistons in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
While details weren’t reported, his contract with the Pistons likely won’t be fully guaranteed, if at all.
