General manager Koby Altman and J.B. Bickerstaff both indicated during media day that the Cavs are looking to take another step in the win department.
Altman said the Cavs will be taking the court “with an eye toward the postseason” but “won’t put a number [of wins] on it,” as relayed by Spencer Davies of Basketball News.
Bickerstaff added that the Cavs are looking to pick up the pace this season, aiming to shoot more 3-pointers with a more “modern” game (also via Davies).
Again, everyone is hoping the end result will lead to the possibility of reaching the postseason — which would be an accomplishment given the team’s overall youth.
“Guys are fed up (with losing),” Bickerstaff said.
More out of Cleveland
- The Cavs were reportedly shopping leading scorer Collin Sexton this offseason, as Sexton is due for a rookie-scale contract extension and may be seeking a max deal. Altman wouldn’t get into specifics, only saying that the Cavs and Sexton are both hoping to be together for the long-term.
- Sexton and the Cavs held a team dinner Sunday night, when Sexton told teammates, “We’ve got to hold each other accountable.” Per Davies, Sexton then went to the gym at 9 p.m. to work on his own game.
- Meanwhile, power forward Kevin Love reiterated that he has not taken part in any buyout conversations. “Wherever this ends up, I want it to be positive,” Love said, via Evan Dammarell of Fear The Sword. Love added, “Everyone’s had their moments, me specifically, but I want to be the best version of myself.”
- In case you missed it, the Cavs announced the signings of center Tacko Fall and guards Mitch Ballock, Kyle Guy and RJ Nembhard to camp deals. Those four are likely to be competing for one two-way spot. The other belongs to guard Brodric Thomas.

Altman griped about having that west coast road trip against strong teams near the beginning of the season. As if it wasn’t fair, or that they were a victim of NBA scheduling. The exact opposite approach and mentality you would want to instill in young players.
Hopefully our players embrace challenges and like to compete more than their cowardly GM.
I still don’t understand why Gilbert hired this guy. To kiss Gilbert’s behind is my best guess.
