While there’s been no movement on a potential trade that would send Damian Lillard from the Trail Blazers to the Heat, that could all change soon.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Blazers may start engaging the Heat — and perhaps others — before the start of training camp in early October. For the record, that’s about three weeks away.
“Very little has happened since really those first several days of July free agency,” Wojnarowski said during an appearance on the network. “… This is a deadline-driven league. The next deadline of any real substance is the start of training camp, and I think you can expect the Blazers to talk with teams again before then.
“But this is an organization that is fully prepared, and Damian Lillard is perhaps prepared, for the possibility that this training camp may start with him (Blazers) camp. And then if you’re the Blazers, you see what happens in the first 20, 25 games of the season to see what direction teams go in.
“Teams may become interested that aren’t interested now, and teams that are interested may be willing to give more in trades. It also gives you the possibility to start constructing multi-team deals, which is what a Damian Lillard trade might look like. It might not be a one-on-one deal.”
