The Trail Blazers didn’t aren’t trading Damian Lillard to his demanded destination of the Heat. Instead, he’s headed to the Bucks in a three-team trade that also involved the Suns.
Many wondered if Lillard would be OK with that. After all, he spent the entire summer aggressively angling for a trade to Miami. But the idea of teaming with Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and competing for a championship seemingly has him changing his tune.
Lillard indicated as much in a tweet intended to thank Portland fans.
“The casuals won’t be addressed but the trailblazers fans and city of Portland that I love truly will be … and they will be addressed truthfully,” Lillard wrote. “Stay tuned.”
He then tagged the Bucks in adding, “Excited for my next chapter!”
Lillard without a doubt should be excited. The winters aren’t as nice in Milwaukee as they are in Miami — far from it. But if the idea is to play for championships, playing next to a talent such as Antetokounmpo is about as good as it gets.
If the Bucks aren’t favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference on paper, they very well could prove to be on the court. An offense that features the Greek Freak and Dame Time is likely to be too much for most opponents to overcome.
