Hornets center/forward Kai Jones could face a fine and suspension for going public with his trade request, as relayed by Brian Goins of Miami Heat Beat.
Under NBA rules, the league could fine Jones up to $150,000 for the public trade request, Goins added.
Jones did indeed make a very public trade request, relaying the news on social media. He announced it on X/Twitter and then retweeted an account that followed up.
The No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Jones has been away from the team indefinitely. The Hornets did not specify as to why.
His contributions at the pro level have been limited, as he appeared in just 46 games last season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.
The Hornets are highly likely open to trading him — but it’s safe to say for all of Jones’ promise, opposing teams aren’t lining up ands won’t offer much in return if they do.
Kai Jones publicly tweeting his own trade request just subjected himself to a fine (up to a maximum of $150,000) and/or a suspension, per CBA. https://t.co/JOZ26q9pa4 pic.twitter.com/DbkUAF30l6
