Knicks to sign Dalton Knecht to two-way deal

The Knicks are signing Dalton Knecht to a two-way contract, his agents at Excel Sports told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The agreement gives the former Lakers first-round pick a fresh start after two seasons in Los Angeles. It follows Thursday’s report that the Knicks were interested in Knecht, with the Timberwolves also linked to the 25-year-old wing.

The Lakers waived Knecht before the regular season after exploring trades, bringing their roster to the 15-player standard limit. A two-way deal allows the Knicks to add him without using a standard roster spot.

Selected No. 17 overall in the 2024 draft, Knecht came out of Tennessee with a reputation as a scorer who could help immediately. He showed promise early but struggled to establish a consistent role under coach JJ Redick.

Knecht averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.2 minutes across 51 appearances last season, shooting 34.2 percent from three-point range. His time in Los Angeles also included the rescinded February 2025 trade that would have sent him to the Hornets for Mark Williams.

For the Knicks, it’s an inexpensive look at a recent first-rounder whose shooting made him an attractive prospect. For Knecht, it’s another opportunity to turn that promise into steady NBA work.
