The Hornets have waived center Kai Jones, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Jones publicly demanded a trade on social media earlier this week, likely prompting the move.
Jones did indeed make a very public trade request, relaying the news on social media. He announced it on X/Twitter and then retweeted an account that followed up.
“I have officially requested to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets,” Jones wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He then retweeted popular basketball Twitter aggregator NBA Central about his trade request.
The No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Jones has been away from the team indefinitely. The Hornets did not specify as to why.
His contributions at the pro level have been limited, as he appeared in just 46 games last season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.
