ESPN NBA play-by-play man Mike Breen has agreed to a contract extension through the 2026-27 season, per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
Breen calls the games for ESPN’s No. 1 NBA broadcast team, working with in-game analysts Doris Burke and Doc Rivers, the former point guard and coach. Before that, Breen spent 16 years alongside Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, both let go at the end of last season.
Breen’s new deal includes the current season and four overall. He has become known for his signature call of Bang! when someone hits a big shot.
Of course, the extension is contingent on ESPN/ABC retaining NBA broadcasting rights, Marchand noted. While most view ESPN/ABC as being able to hold on to the league’s broadcasts (along with TNT), there could be plenty of competition in the form of NBC and others.
“Breen and Rivers are very close friends, even vacationing with each other in the offseason, Rivers has said,” Marchand wrote, adding that “Burke will make TV history in June as the first woman analyst on the NBA Finals.”
