Things just got a little murkier for the Pacers, as Malcolm Brogdon injured his hamstring during Wednesday’s road loss to the Raptors.
Brogdon will now be out indefinitely, joining injured Caris LeVert and T.J. Warren. (Though LeVert could be on the brink of a return.)
Along with all that, the Pacers lost rookie Isaiah Jackson to a knee injury after Brogdon went down. But coach Rick Carlisle indicated that’s just the nature of the business, and the Pacers must find a way to carry on.
“It’s a tough spot. But the games are going to keep coming, and it’s next man up,” Carlisle told reporters.
Indiana (1-4) next pays a visit to Brooklyn on Friday, so things won’t be getting any easier.
“The Pacers cannot have their worst start ever — they were 0-9 to begin 1988-89 — but in only eight other seasons has their five-game record been as poor as 1-4,” wrote David Woods of the Indianapolis Star.
It is not known yet if LeVert will finally make his season debut on Friday. He has been out with a stress fracture in his back.
“I’m trusting the coaches and medical staff, but I’m ready to go,” LeVert said Wednesday.
Meawhile, Brogdon and the Pacers two-year contract extension worth $45 million last week, agent Austin Brown told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. He remains one of the league’s most underrated guards.
