The 76ers have exercised the fourth-year contract option on shooting guard Matisse Thybulle and third-year option on shooting guard Tyrese Maxey, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey announced in a release.
Thybulle, 24, is 6-foot-5 and has developed into a strong wing defender in his third season. He is averaging 4.0 points and 2.4 rebounds through the first five games.
“For his career, Thybulle has appeared in 135 games (22 starts), tallying 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 19.9 minutes per game,” the 76ers wrote in the release. “Thybulle’s 209 career steals rank sixth in the NBA since his rookie season.
“Over his two-plus NBA seasons, Thybulle has 31 games with at least three steals, a mark that is tied for the third-most in the league during that span. Last season, he was the only player in the NBA to have at least 100 steals and 70 blocks in less than 1,300 minutes played.”
Maxey, 20, is 6-2 and in his second season. He is averaging 14.4 points and 4.4 boards on the year.
“Maxey posted a career-high 39 points, along with seven rebounds and eight assists against Denver last season,” the Sixers noted. “At the time, Maxey was the first rookie since 2019 to post a 35-5-5 performance in a single game and became just the second 76er rookie to post such numbers in a game.”
He scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a win over the Pistons on Thursday night.
“He’s doing great, man,” Sixers guard Danny Green said of Maxey. “He’s got a lot on his plate. Throwing things at him every day, every game, and he’s handling it like a mature adult for a kid who’s barely 21. He’s understanding and learning each day what you need from him.”
The 76ers (3-2) host the Hawks in an Eastern Conference playoff rematch on Saturday.
