Steve Kerr: Warriors not playing like champions and ‘I’m not coaching like it’

Right now, the Golden State Warriors look like a team that can play well during the course of a game — but not finish the job.

The latest example came in Friday’s overtime road loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Warriors barely lost (138-136). But these are the type of games a team with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green used to win.

Today, though, the Warriors’ story mostly has been one of turnovers, untimely defensive lapses and blown leads.

“It’s a pattern right now,” coach Steve Kerr said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I watched this same group win a championship a year and a half ago. They’re champions. But they’re not playing like it. I’m not coaching like it. We have to figure this out.”

As it stands, Golden State (10-12) no longer looks like a Western Conference contender. More like a team that will be lucky to get a Play-In game.

That said, Thompson and the others indicated they still believe.

“I will never, ever lose faith in this group,” Thompson said, via Slater. “We’ve been through too many battles together. I’ll never lose faith. Never. Ever. Never ever. Never lose faith.”
