Sixers to extend Daryl Morey contract through 2027-28

President of basketball operations Daryl Morey had to trade James Harden earlier this season and the Philadelphia 76ers haven’t missed a beat.

And it appears the 76ers will be rewarding Morey because of it, as well as multiple other reasons. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Morey and the Sixers have agreed on a contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

Morey has been with the 76ers since 2020, following his long stint as general manager of the Houston Rockets. The Sixers are off to a 16-7 start through Thursday and went 154-82 in Morey’s first three seasons. They have won a playoff series each year before being eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Morey replaced coach Doc Rivers with Nick Nurse, who won a championship with the Toronto Raptors, this past offseason. Nurse’s contract also runs through 2027-28.

Per Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports, Morey’s original deal was for five years, so the extension will add three more to that.

Morey is a native of Medina, Ohio, and attended Highland High School before going to MIT.
