While standout center Karl-Anthony Towns shot down the idea that he wants out of Minnesota, rival teams are closely monitoring his situation with the Timberwolves, as relayed by RealGM.
Towns has been in the news after his Twitter handle “liked” a tweet with #FreeKat in it. Towns said he himself didn’t support such a tweet and indicated his account had to have been hacked.
“Sorry to the Wolves fans. I ain’t want to cause no hysteria or anything like that,” Towns said. “But just know I’m very happy. I know we’re on a skid so it came at the worst possible time, that little hacking. I’m excited to hopefully build more years here, not just this year.”
Minnesota has struggled mightily in the Towns era, but he has said publicly he’s not looking to leave.
“We have to come together and we have to keep our team together and the camaraderie and the energy and the morale up,” Towns said.
Still, none of this has kept opposing teams from wondering if that Towns will eventually want to play for a contender. The Wolves has some promise with the likes of Towns and Anthony Edwards — but it still seems as if they remain a few years away from good things.
“The belief around the league is that Towns will eventually get frustrated with the lack of playoff appearances and will ask for a trade,” RealGM wrote.
Towns is averaging 23.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists through the first seven games. But after a nice start, the Timberwolves (3-4) have lost three in a row.
