Former NBA assistant Kaleb Canales has been named associate head coach of Mexico’s national basketball team, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Canales, 43, has been an assistant in the NBA since joining the Trail Blazers in 2008. He also spent time with the Mavericks (2008-13) and Knicks (2018-20) before joining the Pacers prior to last season.
Canales will assist with Mexico for the upcoming FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Cup, Wojnarowski reported.
He became the NBA’s first Mexican-American head coach back in 2012, when he served as the interim coach of the Blazers, replacing Nate McMillan.
