Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid showed again why he’s the reigning NBA MVP and is a contender again this year.
Embiid erupted for 70 points on 24-of-41 shooting in a 133-123 home win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain‘s franchise record of 68.
Chamberlain set the mark on Dec. 16, 1967 against the Chicago Bulls. It took 57 years, but now that record belongs to Embiid.
Final: Sixers 133, Spurs 123.
Joel Embiid sets a new franchise record for points in a game with 70 points, passing Wilt Chamberlain.
The Sixers have won six in a row, and Embiid continues to stay ahead of a point-per-minute pace – something only Chamberlain has ever done.

Embiid also grabbed 18 rebounds in the victory, to go with five assists.
Philadelphia (28-13) also received 18 points and eight assists from guard Tyrese Maxey.
The Spurs (8-34) received 33 points from rookie center Victor Wembanyama, who spent part of the night on the wrong end of Embiid’s historic showing.
