Cavs’ Collin Sexton Out For Season Following Knee Surgery

He will be a restricted free agent in July, so the news couldn’t have come at a worse time for Sexton or the Cavs.

Sexton, 22, is 6-foot-1 and his scoring average has decreased by eight points from last season, from 24.3 points to 16.0 points through his 11 appearances this year.

But a large part of that is because the Cavs have a more balanced lineup following the offseason additions of Lauri Markkanen, Ricky Rubio and No. 3 overall draft pick Evan Mobley.

Sexton suffered the injury on Nov. 8, exiting the Cavs’ win over the Knicks in the second quarter. He underwent an MRI at the Cleveland Clinic the next day.

Until this point, he had missed just 12 games in his NBA career, all last season.

“It’s a massive loss,” Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com quoted a source as saying of Sexton at the time.

After a surprisingly quick start, the Cavs (9-8) have lost three straight amid a bevy of injuries.

The list includes Markkanen (protocols), Evan Mobley (elbow), Jarrett Allen (illness) and Cedi Osman (back spasms). Kevin Love and Isaac Okoro just recently returned after missing some time.
