Knicks Looking To Trade Kemba Walker?

The Knicks may be exploring the idea of trading veteran point guard Kemba Walker, multiple league sources tell A. Sherrod Blakely of Bleacher Report.

Walker has been removed from the starting lineup and is out of the regular rotation, coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters on Monday.

But as Blakely relayed, Walker’s trade value is much like his production and “at an all-time low.”

In 18 games this season, Walker is averaging 11.7 points and 3.1 assists, far from his All-Star numbers of yesteryear.

“I just don’t like the way we’ve been trending, the inconsistency of our team and we’re gonna try to make a change,” Thibodeau said of replacing Walker with Alec Burks in the starting lineup. “I want to get bigger … I want our defense to be more intact. So basically that was it; I got to do something different.”

Walker arrived in New York after the Celtics traded him to the Thunder, then had his contract bought out by OKC. As Marc Berman of the New York Post noted, there were plenty of doubts after Walker was limited to just 43 games by a knee issue last season with the Celtics.

But all is not lost when it comes to potential trade partners, Blakely reported.

“League sources believe Walker’s value has the potential to change as the Knicks get closer to the Feb. 10 trade deadline and teams get more desperate to add a veteran who, despite his defensive shortcomings, has shown he can still make shots, albeit in a more limited capacity,” Blakely wrote.

A source close to the Knicks told Blakely that the Knicks could have an interest in Rockets point guard John Wall, who is sitting out as Houston explores trades. Wall has yet to play this season.
