Veteran guard Patrick Beverley and the Timberwolves have held talks on a contract extension, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, via RealGM.
Beverley, 33, is 6-foot-1 and has made a name for himself as one of the NBA’s peskiest defenders. He was traded from the Clippers to the Grizzlies, then Grizzlies to the Timberwolves, during the offseason.
A typically dormant Minnesota defense has become among the league’s top 10 with Beverley on board, presumably leading to the talks of him staying for the long term.
Beverley is in the final year of his deal and is eligible to sign an extension until the end of the season, when he would otherwise enter free agency.
As RealGM relayed, the Timberwolves would also like to add another veteran piece to try to make a playoff push. Pacers center Myles Turner is a player who fits that description who may be drawing interest from Minnesota.
There is no indication, however, that the Pacers are looking to move Turner — though his name has hit the rumor mill in at least each of the past three seasons, and offseasons. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 10.
In 16 games this season, Beverley is averaging 8.1 points, 4.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds.
