According to NBA insider Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia 76ers are looking at potential free agents like LeBron James and OG Anunoby.
LeBron and Anunoby can become unrestricted free agents this summer if they decline their 2024-25 player options.
The Sixers will heavily pursue Paul George, who is expected to decline his 2024-25 player option with the Los Angeles Clippers and enter free agency.
LeBron and Anunoby are anticipated to become free agents this offseason as well.
“The Sixers do have their eyes on other lucrative-salary impact players just in case they don’t get George,” Pompey wrote. “That’s why they also are looking at potential free agents like the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James and New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby.”
For the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists this season while shooting 54.0% from the field, 41.0% from beyond the arc and 75.0% from the free-throw line. The NBA legend met with the Sixers in the summer of 2018 before joining the Lakers.
The New York Knicks acquired Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in December. Anunoby averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23 games with the Knicks while shooting 48.8% from the floor, 39.4% from 3 and 79.1% from the foul line.
The Sixers lost to the Knicks in the first round of this year’s playoffs in six games. The franchise has never advanced past the second round of the postseason in the Joel Embiid era.
Philadelphia is projected to have $60 million in cap space this summer. Tobias Harris becomes a free agent and the veteran is not expected to return to the Sixers.
Tyrese Maxey becomes a restricted free agent this offseason. The Sixers are expected to sign him to a lucrative contract.
Maxey won the Most Improved Player of the Year Award this season. He’s one of the top scorers in the NBA.
LeBron and Maxey have the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group.
