Before Cam Reddish was traded to the Knicks, the Hawks received an offer from the Lakers.
Per Fred Katz and Chris Kirchner of The Athletic, that offer included two second-round draft picks. But the Hawks held out for a first-rounder, and that’s precisely what they received from the Knicks as part of the deal.
The Lakers (21-21) have had an uneven season despite the addition of Russell Westbrook, who still hasn’t proven to be a consistent fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis (when healthy).
But LA wasn’t the only team expressing interest in Reddish, who has been averaging a career-high 11.9 points. Per Katz and Kirchner, the Cavaliers, Pacers and Pistons also checked in on Reddish’s availability over the past few months.
“The Hawks have made Reddish widely available since before this past draft cycle,” Katz and Kirchner reported. “The price then was a first-round pick, and it never changed.”
Along with a first-rounder from the Knicks, the Hawks received forward Kevin Knox, who had a strong rookie season in 2018-19, but fell out of favor under Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau the past couple seasons.
New York also sent the protected 2022 first-rounder back to Atlanta. That pick actually comes via the Hornets, and is top-18 protected in 2022, top-16 protected in 2023 and top-14 in 2024 and 2025.
“If the Hornets keep the pick through 2025, it will turn into second-round picks in 2026 and 2027,” wrote Greg Joyce of the New York Post.
The Hawks also sent forward Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-rounder to the Knicks as part of the trade.
