Clippers Signing Former Heat Guard To Camp Deal

The Clippers are signing shooting guard Alondes Williams to their training camp roster, per Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Williams, 25, is 6-foot-4 and appeared in seven games with the Heat last season while on a two-way deal. He played one game with the Nets as a rookie in 2022-23.

“With the Williams move, it means all three players who finished last season on Heat two-way deals have now signed elsewhere this offseason, with Williams joining the Clippers, Cole Swider going to camp with the Indiana Pacers and Jamal Cain signing a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. Like Williams, Swider agreed to a camp tryout contract,” Winderman wrote.

Miami is at the NBA limit with three two-way players, as camp is set to begin in less than a month.

“Currently under two-way contracts to the Heat are former Houston Rockets first-round pick Josh Christopher, undrafted Arizona forward Keshad Johnson and returning Heat guard Dru Smith,” Winderman noted.

Interestingly, if Williams fails to make the Clippers’ standard roster, his G League rights would still belong to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s affiliate. His deal with the Clippers has not been specified, though it is likely an Exhibit 10 contract. If so, he could indeed end up in San Diego with the Clippers’ G League squad.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
