Who Will ESPN Hire To Replace Adrian Wojnarowski? Perhaps Nobody

ESPN was handed some bombshell news last week when noted NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement from the industry.

That’s led to lots of speculation about Wojnarowski’s potential replacement — from Shams Charania of The Athletic to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report to many others. There’s also been talk that ESPN will promote someone to the role from within.

But there really is no way to replace Woj and his bombs, and that may be a reality with which ESPN is willing to live.

“ESPN doesn’t need a Woj 2.0 and can break NBA news by committee with their deep roster of NBA reporting talent,” wrote John Ourand of Puck.

So, yeah. By committee may be the best option. And Ourand was actually the second sports media insider to suggest as much. The first was Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.

Interestingly, training camp starts this week for the Celtics and Nuggets, and next week for everyone else. So ESPN is sort of under a time crunch to figure out what to do. Sources have told Hoops Wire that the outlet’s leaders are indeed putting their heads together to find a Woj 2.0 — or decide if one is necessary at all.

We do know that the network will announce as much if it were to make a hire. After all, we have to know who to set to alert on our X (formerly Twitter) notifications, right?
