Timberwolves among teams linked to Dalton Knecht

The Timberwolves are among the teams expected to pursue Dalton Knecht for a two-way contract if he clears waivers, according to reports.

Minnesota recently opened a two-way spot by releasing Enrique Freeman, giving it room to add another player.

The Lakers waived Knecht on Monday after exploring trades, ending his stint with the organization after two seasons. Los Angeles needed to reduce its standard roster from 16 players to 15.

For Minnesota, a two-way deal would offer an opportunity to develop a former first-round pick without using a standard roster spot.

Knecht, 25, was selected No. 17 overall in the 2024 draft after starring at Tennessee. He showed promise early in his rookie season but struggled to establish a consistent role under coach JJ Redick.

Last season, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.2 minutes across 51 appearances. Shooting was expected to be his biggest NBA asset, but he connected on just 34.2% of his three-point attempts.

His time in L.A. also included the rescinded February 2025 trade that would have sent him to the Hornets in a deal for Mark Williams.

Along with the Timberwolves, several other contenders have expressed interest in adding Knecht. On the downside, most rosters are set for at least the next few weeks.
