Adam Schefter, ESPN Have Mutual Interest In Schefter Replacing Adrian Wojnarowski

NFL insider Adam Schefter may someday soon be known as more than the top NFL insider. Perhaps he can be the top NBA insider, too.Adam Schefter, ESPN, NBA

Per Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, who has been all over the Adrian Wojnarowski replacement news, no less than Schefter could handle a “dual role” of being the main man at ESPN in both the NFL and, yes, NBA.

Yes, that means Shefter would try to handle both roles. Frankly, that seems like an impossible task. Being the top insider in one sport already consumes a person year-round — especially when that sport is the NFL. Imagine adding the NBA to the mix, too.

But McCarthy wrote that Schefter and ESPN have at least considered the idea. Schefter, of course, once served as an NBA sideline reporter, but it seems that side gig was mostly just for fun.

“To be clear, we’re a long way from this happening,” McCarthy wrote. “But there’s mutual interest, per multiple sources. Another top-ranking source shot down the rumor, flatly saying Schefter is not a candidate.”

In other words, who knows who will actually replace Woj. But ESPN may want to do it soon, given that training camp has tipped off. They’re currently getting destroyed by Shams Charania of The Athletic (who, by the way, is believed to be ESPN’s top candidate in the world of social media).

So, what about Schefter? He joins ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan as someone who’s been linked to Wojnarowski’s old role.

“The tireless Schefter loves his current role at ESPN,” McCarthy wrote. “It’s an open question whether he’d be willing to take on such a time-consuming dual role. It would probably take a significant raise. Schefter signed a new contract in 2022 that pays him $9 million a year, according to the New York Post.”
