Suns Release Two Players

The Suns have waived NBA journeyman and forward/center Mamadi Diakite, as well as forward Moses Wood, the team announced in a press release.

Diakite, 27, is 6-foot-9 and was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract in August after being waived by the Grizzlies. He was acquired in a trade with the Nets for Ziaire Williams earlier in the offseason. Overall, he appeared in six games last season with the Knicks and Spurs.

The Grizzlies actually waived-and-stretched Diakite’s guaranteed salary over three seasons, giving themselves a little more flexibility, as relayed by Chris Herrington of the Daily Memphian.

Diakite has also spent time with the Bucks, Thunder and Cavaliers since 2020. He has appeared in 55 games overall, with NBA averages of 3.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 48.3% shooting.

Wood, 25, is 6-8 and was also signed to a camp contract. He logged a little more than five minutes in two preseason games, scoring two points and grabbing a rebound.

Both Diakite and Wood are strong candidates to head to the G League’s Valley Suns.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
