It’s been a short, but fairly uneventful, offseason. And that’s the way the Cavaliers wanted it. They wanted their main men back and to hire Kenny Atkinson as coach.
Well, guess where the Cavs are today, with the regular season tipping off next week? I break it all down, what’s ahead, who to watch and (sort of) predict where I think the Cavs will finish on the latest Hoops Wire Live from 330 to Go. Watch on YouTube here or in the video directly below.
As for more of my thoughts, here’s what I think — the Cavaliers are in good shape. They didn’t need to do anything too, too splashy. They needed to stay the course and get Donovan Mitchell signed to a contract extension (as well as Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Isaac Okoro). In that sense, it’s mission accomplished.
Now, the real work begins, with Atkinson hired to institute a dynamic offense, help take Mobley to another level and get Darius Garland back on track.
And seriously. Just imagine if Mobley and Garland have career seasons. Will you believe that no move was the right move then?
But even if not, the Cavs have all the way until February to make a trade. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. Let’s hope things progress as planned. Let’s hope this comes together and suddenly, Cleveland is a contender.
I truly believe all those things are possibilities. Now, brace yourself for 82 games of figuring out if I’m right.
